Help with lab computers and printing

Campus WiFi

The VSU Wifi can be logged onto by anyone with a school log in. Your username will be the stem of your VSU email (usually a version of your name), and the password that you use for your VSU email is the one you will need to log in. For more in-depth instructions, try the IT department's guide to VSU WiFi.

Computers

There are school computers and open labs scattered throughout the library.

When the computer asks for your username and password, it is asking for the first part of your VSU e-mail and the password that you use to get into your MyVSU account.

Lab computer tips:

  • If you have trouble logging in, try contacting the IT helpdesk. They are on the 2nd floor of the library near the entrance.
  • The quiet lab is on the 3rd floor if you need a quiet space. Please report noise complaints to library staff. Reference's chat service can be used if you don't want the people you are reporting to hear you.
  • All-in-one computers have a few hidden parts: power is under the Bang and Olafson logo, the webcam pops out from the top, and the CD/DVD compartment is on the side.
  • If you need help navigating how to use a computer you may want to book a session with Academic Support for tutoring on computer basics. Try the New Media Center or the IT Helpdesk for more complicated help.

Printing

Black and white printers are scattered throughout the library. We have 2 color printers: one on the 2nd floor near the reference desk, and the other is in the New Media Center on the 1st floor.

Printer tips:

  • The easiest way to log onto the printer is using your VSU ID, but the Alternate log-on button on the touch screen on each printer will allow you to type in your username and password just like logging into a school computer. It helps to type slowly because the touch screen has a low sensitivity.
  • If the printer asks for a password after you swipe your ID card, then it did not get a good read of your card. Exit the screen and try again, or use the alternate logon and type in your username and password to sign in instead.
  • If you are sending print jobs from a school computer, do not use the print center website. It is only for laptops and phones and does not allow for all printing options, so errors can occur if you use it when it is not required.
  • Library printers only have letter-sized paper, but you can send legal-sized paper print jobs to the color printer and use the one in New Media to print them as long as they are open.
  • The print credit each semester can be supplemented by money in your Flex account.
  • Try printing one print job at a time if your documents are large. The printers have limited working memory and will occasionally delete print jobs that took up too much space.
