First Generation and Non-traditional Student Guide

The bursary office handles everything related to your student account, including tuition and fees. You can contact the Bursary when you have questions about tuition, fees, or anything related to money and your student account.

This department handles student loans, tuition payments, and scholarships. Check in with them if you see something concerning about your tuition or aid statuses.

The registrar handles major and minor declarations or changes, official transcripts, approval to graduate, and verification of enrollment. Begin filling out the paperwork to graduate with them a semester before you plan to graduate so they can tell you what classes remain to complete your degree in a timely way.

Also known as campus police, these officers can help you if an altercation is happening, if you have lost something, you want to register your bike, or if you need an escort to your car because you are feeling uncomfortable about walking alone at night.

Our e-learning department can be a life-saver when you need help with BlazeVIEW and other learning platform problems.

The NMC is located on the first floor of the library. They have equipment for check-out, a recording studio, 3-D printers, and even help teach people how to use many digital media creation programs.

IT can help you sign into wi-fi, register your devices to the VSU system, reset your passwords, and set up two factor verification among other technology needs you could have as a student.

The Academic Support Center is on the 2nd floor of the library. They have peer tutors available as well as having events to help students with study skills. Another essential service that they offer is teaching students the basics of Microsoft Office and basics of using computers. If you are interested in a tutoring job, the ASC sends out announcements for applicants towards the end of the semester. If you have earned a B or better in a course advertised, consider applying!

The ASC also provides workshops to help improve your career planning and academic health.

The Access office helps students and staff with disabilities by offering adaptive technology and offering modifications in procedure. They have forms for emotional support animals as well. They aim to help people thrive in a world not built for them.

If you need help with sources, citation styles, or just need to report someone being loud in the library you can start a chat with a librarian from this link, or the button on the library's home page. Chat is only available when the reference desk is open, but is a life saver in a pinch.

The Adult and Military Programs department's goal is to support former military students and adults returning to college after some time in the working world. They might be able to help you find financial assistance, get credit for prior learning, and other things important to older students.

Blazer Pantry is located on the first floor of the Student Union and helps students who have financial shortfalls feed and clothe themselves appropriately to get jobs that might help them. The only thing that they ask is that students be considered full time (12 credit hours for undergraduate and 9 credit hours for graduate).

Campus recreation provides exercise facilities and equipment to VSU students through a fee in their tuition. Non-fee students, staff, and faculty can also pay fees to get access. Check them out if you need somewhere to keep fit.

The counseling center provides up to 6 free therapy visits to students per semester, gives access to many mental health programs, provides referrals to local mental health services, and group support meetings. Taking care of your mental health is important, and we hope this office will help you as much as it did the guide editor.

Family works provides access to brief family therapy to the campus and local community with sliding scale payments. Their goal is to help you, or your family, make changes in your life to get closer to your goals. They see couples, families, and individuals in their practice, so students interested in family therapy with their children may find this service very helpful.

The student health center gives students on-campus access to doctor visits, basic labs, immunizations, and common prescription and over the counter medications. While visits may incur costs, they are usually reduced from those at off-campus facilities.
