Valdosta State University, through the Odum Library’s subscription licenses, participates in several Open Access “Read & Publish” agreements. In these agreements, VSU pays the publisher an upfront fee, and in return, affiliated researchers can publish their work openly in eligible journals without having to pay Article Processing Charges (APCs).
This guide documents the publishers with whom we currently have such agreements and briefly provides basic information about their terms.
Remember that the cost of publishing open source has already been paid as part of our subscription fees. It will cost the Library nothing additional if you choose to publish OA under one of our Read & Publish agreements.
You, as the author of an article, hold the copyright. Consequently, Valdosta State University does not need to sign any Journal Publishing Agreement related to the publishing of your article. To quote from VSU's Intellectual Property Policy: "ownership of copyrights, patents, or trademarks to scholarly or aesthetic works that are prepared through independent effort and not part of a directed assignment, shall reside with the originator except as otherwise provided in this policy. The general obligation of faculty to produce scholarly works does not constitute a directed assignment."
