What is Cartography?

Cartography is the study and production of maps and charts. It blends scientific knowledge, artistic design, and technical skill to represent spatial information effectively. This sector encompasses the research, exploration, and design required to produce accurate maps, and it is essential for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting geographic data.

Copperplate Engraving

Copperplate engraving is a printing technique where designs are incised into metal plates using a cutting tool, such as a burin. The design is created by cutting, scratching, or etching the plate. After engraving, ink is applied to the grooves and then the plate is cleaned of excess ink. Due to the fine details that need to be reproduced, significant pressure is needed to transfer the design onto paper, which is achieved using a printing press to apply the necessary force.
