Having trouble finding books on your topic?
Take a look at your keywords!
- Is everything spelled correctly?
- Is a person/place/event called something else? Can you add that to the search?
- Instead of searching for the event, search for the location or the group of people involved.
- There may not be any books about your specific event, but you might find background information that could add to your research. Think about the group of people you are researching. Try searching for them and try adding "Violence" or "racism" as a keyword. If there is too much info, add the location or even the general area (ex: southern United States or western United States). While you may not have results involving your specific event, you will get info on the wider historical context.
D: World History and History of Europe, Asua, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, etc. (Located on the first floor)
E: History of the Americas - America, United States (Located on the third floor)
F: History of the Americas - US Local History, British America/Canada, Dutch America, French America, Latin America, Spanish America (Located on the third floor)

The detailed record will tell you what floor the book will be found on and the call number of the book.
In the example above, the book's call number is DF234 .F74 2011. The record also tells you it is located on the first floor and that there is one copy available.
A call number is like the physical address of a book. Books are arranged alphabetically by the first numbers of the call number, then numerically by the following digits. This is followed by a letter, decimal, and publication date.
