FOLIO Migration

FOLIO (Future of Libraries is Open) will be the new Library Management System for the colleges and universities in the University system of Georgia. A new catalog system, Locate, will be used to search for physical items, such as books, physical journals, board games, etc., that the library owns. You will also be able to request items from other USG intuitions within Locate. 
 

This system will replace our current catalog, GIL-Find, on July 16th, 2025.*

Updates

Beginning June 16th*, GIL Express will be down to migrate to FOLIO. If you need to check out books from other libraries during this time, please use Interlibrary Loan.

Important Information Regarding the Migration to FOLIO

 

  • There will be a new catalog for searching books and physical library items. The current catalog, GIL-Find, will be replaced with Locate.
  • If you have materials saved on your bookshelf in Gil-Find, these will not be accessible after the migration to FOLIO. You can export the data by following the instructions in the What will happen to my saved items? section of the FAQs.
  • Links to material in the catalog will break when we migrate in July. Please see these instructions on replacing links to items in your course. 
  • In June, GIL Express will be down to begin the migration process. During this time, you can use ILL (InterLibrary Loan) to place requests for books from other institutions. 
  • Links to course reserves will no longer work after we move to FOLIO. Guidance on how to handle these items will be provided later this summer.

 

 

Timeline

Important Dates to Know
 

  • April 2025 - FOLIO training for library faculty and staff begins.
  • May 19, 2025 - All books checked out from GIL Express after this point will change from a 28 day loan period with 2 automatic renewals to a single 90-day loan period with no renewals. 
  • June 16, 2025* - GIL Express will be down to migrate to FOLIO. If you need to check out books from other libraries during this time, please use Interlibrary Loan.
  • July 9 -15, 2025* - During this time, checking in and out books may take longer than normal due to a circulation freeze to help migrate to Folio.
  • July 16, 2025* - USG Go-Live. FOLIO is expected to be up and functional at this time.
